South Penn In Brief HOLD Status For Medical Emergency
From Allegany County Public Schools: Today, February 28, 2025, South Penn Elementary School was placed in a HOLD status due to a medical emergency. First Responders arrived on scene and provided medical service. School administrators gave the “All Clear” and the instructional day resumed as normal.

On Thursday, February 27th, 2025, the Cumberland Police Department arrested Jason Kelly Stottlemyer, 48, of Cumberland MD. Stottlemyer was arrested on three active Bench Warrants issued by the Allegany County District Court on February 26th, 2024. The warrants allege Stottlemyer failed to appear in court on that date for three separate cases where he was charged with CDS possession and theft. Rally For Increased Minimum Wage
Maryland labor leaders including the state teacher’s union and AFSCME joined the One Fair Wage movement in Annapolis to rally for raising the state’s minimum wage to $20 per hour by 2030. Proposed bills would phase in the minimum wage and eliminate the subminimum wage for tipped workers. There would be tax credits for small businesses and mandated transparency on service fees. On Thursday, February 27th, 2025, at approximately 245pm, the Cumberland Police Department and Cumberland Fire Department responded to the area of Seton Dr and Bishop Walsh Rd for the report of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle. Upon arrival, a juvenile victim was located who was being attended to by concerned bystanders and witnesses to the incident. It was learned that the victim had been struck by a blue passenger vehicle while walking home from school. After being struck, the suspect vehicle failed to stop and fled the scene. Hooley Plunge this Saturday, March 1
Hooley Plunge has become the largest single-day fundraising event in Allegany County. Scheduled for this Saturday, March 1, hundreds will run into the cold waters of Lake Habeeb at Rocky Gap State Park to raise money for local programs supporting the developmentally disabled, including the Special Olympics of Allegany County, Friends Aware, public and private school programs.
