On Wednesday, September 10th, 2025, the Cumberland Police Department served multiple Criminal and Civil Citations as a result of ongoing increased patrols in the downtown mall area. Virginia Ave Assault Arrest
On Wednesday, September 10th, 2025, the Cumberland Police Department responded to a residence in the 200 block of Virginia Ave for the report of an assault. Upon arrival, officers contacted the caller who advised they had been assaulted by a female subject in the home. Officers observed the victim to have visible injuries to their face from the alleged assault. As a result, Bobbi Marie Adams, 34, of Cumberland MD, was placed under arrest. As the school year begins, Lighthouse Christian Academy highlighted some of its programs on the Dave Norman Show. Westernport Library Flood Damage Update
The damage to the Westernport Library from the flooding in May goes deeper than just cosmetics, according to the Allegany County Library System’s Interim Director, Lisa McKenney. An undermining has occurred to the front of the building that is not covered by flood insurance policy, but the County included the newfound damage in the most recent FEMA request. US Motto “In God We Trust” to be in All WV Schools
“In God We Trust” will be posted in all West Virginia schools in the coming months per the state’s Senate Bill 280. The bill requires all public elementary, secondary schools and state institutions of higher education to display the United States motto. 2,500 signs have been sponsored by First Liberty and Patriot Mobile, some of which are already in place. Cumberland Historic Cemetery Heritage Day Schedule
During the Heritage Days weekend, the Cumberland Historic Cemetery Organization will be hosting walking tours through the City’s two historic cemeteries. On both Saturday and Sunday, the tours begin at 12 noon and 3 pm, starting and ending at the SS Peter and Paul’s Cemetery entrance on Fayette Street. Resources for Independence Celebrates 30 years
Resources for Independence, a local center assisting individuals with disabilities to live independently, celebrated 30 years of service to Garrett, Allegany, and Washington Counties. Both the City of Cumberland and Allegany County recognized the center’s years of service last week. Lori Magruder, Executive Director of Resources for Independence, says those with disabilities hold a significant number in communities nationwide… “Our services and our advocacy work is so important because while you may not know, individuals with disabilities makes up the largest minority group in our country, one of which anyone can become a part of at any given time.”
CSX Assists in Railfest Funding
The Western Maryland Scenic Railroad has received “tremendous support” with the return of Railfest, according to Executive Director Wes Heinz. Heinz told WCBC one of its supporters includes CSX, who assisted the event’s comeback monetarily… “They gave us a community grant that’s kind of underpinning some of the administrative side of what we had to accomplish to pull off this year’s Railfest, and we’re very grateful for their participation in that regard.”
