Criminal Summons Served
On August 4th, 2025 the Cumberland Police Department served a criminal summons on Joshua Grimes. The summons was issued after an officer from the Cumberland Police Department completed an investigation into a series of false complaints made by Grimes from May 2025 to July 2025. The officer spoke with the victim who confirmed that the complaints were false and harassing in nature. An application was completed and a criminal summons was issued. F.O.P. Golf Tournament August 24
A golf tournament to benefit the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 144 of the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office is scheduled for August 24 at Rocky Gap Golf Course. VFW Post Achieves All-American Status
The Henry Hart Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1411, located on Union Street in Cumberland, has achieved All-American status as recognized by the VFW Department of Maryland and the National VFW. The All-American Post achievement shows commitment to the VFW’s mission of serving veterans and their communities. Post 1411 received recognition for exhibiting exceptional leadership, teamwork, membership growth, and engagement in VFW core programs.
Buckel Says Maryland Special Session Not Likely
The West Virginia legislature may be called back to Charleston for a special session later this summer, but a similar action in Maryland doesn’t seem likely according to House Minority Leader Jason Buckel. Buckel tells WCBC he and Garrett County Delegate Jim Hinebaugh serve on a special oversight committee set up to discuss federal budget changes… “…go through and assess what the budgetary implications of the various federal actions may be and that will give us a better idea as to whether or not we need to do something on an emergency basis.” The committee meets again next…
Update On Westernport Library
The Westernport Library has been closed to the public since flooding caused severe damage to the building in May. Recently, the library’s marketing director, Ashley Swinford, spoke with WCBC about the ongoing restoration work that has been taking place, moving the library closer to being in service again for the community… “We’re hoping for a late 2025 reopening, but some changes that we’re going through – that could be delayed. Things are still happening and still progressing, just a little bit slower. We’re still in the early stages of some of the remodel and getting it reopened.”
Gender Pay Gap Persists
A new report from the National Association of Colleges and Employers shows the gender pay gap continues to persist for women in Maryland. Out of full-time workers who earned their bachelor’s degree in the last seven years, women are paid 82 cents for every dollar men earn and the average salary of a male worker runs $14,000 higher. City Council Meeting Moved This Week
Because of the National Night Out Celebrations tonight in South Cumberland, the regular meeting of the Cumberland Mayor and City Council is being moved to Wednesday evening. The Mayor and Council will meet for the regular public meeting at 6:15pm in City Hall Chambers where the benefactor of the city’s new artificial Christmas tree will be recognized. A public work session will be held before the regular meeting at 5pm.
Governor Releases Money For Energy Modernization
Governor Wes Moore announced Monday the launch of the Local Government Energy Modernization Program – new funding to accelerate clean energy planning and deployment across the state’s municipalities and counties. Through the Maryland Energy Administration, the program will provide $64 million for projects to help local governments reduce utility costs, modernize infrastructure, and advance Maryland’s goal of reaching net-zero emissions.
Congressman Works to Restore ARC Funding
President Donald Trump’s discretionary budget included a 93% reduction to the budget of the Appalachian Regional Commission, slashing funding from $200 million down to $14 million dollars. In appropriations committee meetings, that funding was restored back to $163 million dollars. West Virginia congressman Riley Moore argued for the funding… “Each year the ARC invests in critical priorities across the Appalachian Region. These programs align with President Trump’s agenda to develop rural America, combat addiction, develop the workforce and improve infrastructure. Failing to restore these funds will leave these Americans and their communities behind.”
Warrant Arrests
Samantha Rae Wingrove, 38 of Uniontown, PA, was arrested on two (2) District Court Bench Warrants for Failure to Appear. Her charges include: Driving Suspended and Driving without Required License. Wingrove was released on her own recognizance from Central Booking. Rachel Nicole Dolly, 36 of Cumberland, was served a District Court Bench Warrants for Violation of Probation. Her original conviction was for Theft: $100 to Under $1,500 where Judge Bean sentenced her to serve 15-days in jail with 2-years supervised probation. Dolly is being held on $500 bond pending a bail review. Christopher Robin Richardson, 42 of Cresaptown, was served…
