Police Make Arrest After Assault Complaint

On Wednesday, March 23, 2022 at approximately 8:49 PM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a residence in the 900 block of Gay Street for a domestic disturbance.  Upon arrival, officers contacted several occupants inside the apartment.  One of the residents was identified as Bethany Montague.  Montague was uncooperative with the police in their attempt to investigate the incident.  It was soon discovered that Montague had an active bench warrant for her arrest.  The warrant was issued as a result of Montague violating her probation.  While attempting to place Montague under arrest, she pulled away and assaulted one…

Traffic Stop Nets CDS Arrests

On Wednesday, March 23, 2022 at approximately 3:17 PM, an officer of the Cumberland Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a traffic violation.   A K-9 was requested and the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist.  The K-9 alerted to the odor of CDS in the vehicle.  A search of the vehicle and occupants was conducted.  An amount of controlled dangerous substance was located.  After further investigation, two of the occupants, Mark Rankin and Tyler Hoover, were arrested for possession of the CDS.  They were transported to city police headquarters and later released on criminal citations…

Deadline Set for April 15th to Run for Office

The latest deadline to file to run for office in Maryland is April 15th- with two earlier dates having been changed as a result of ongoing legal challenges pertaining to legislative redistricting. Locally the candidate lists are beginning to grow. In the city of Cumberland, while Mayor Ray Morriss does not yet have a challenger, there are a total of six candidates for two open city council seats including incumbents Rock Cioni and Joe George. Trial Date Set for FH Student Murder Suspect

A jury trial for the 16-year-old Fort Hill High School student accused of murdering a classmate last October is tentatively set for April 27th.  Although the teenager has been charged as an adult, authorities are not permitted to release his name. He is charged with first-degree murder in the after-school stabbing death Saiquan Jenkins October 28th.  Police said at the time that the stabbing likely stemmed from an “ongoing personal dispute” between Jenkins and the accused teen. Shade Responds to McKay as Senate Race Heats Up

Because both candidates are current Republican office holders having chosen to pursue the seat being vacated by State Senator George Edwards- the primary campaign pitting Allegany County Commissioner Jake Shade against House of Delegate 1C representative Mike McKay is expected to be one of the more contentious. Hogan Comments on Need for Extending Gas Tax Holiday

Maryland Governor Larry Hogan told WBAL Wednesday that he'd like longer relief at the pump from the state's gas tax, and that a 30-day gas tax holiday may not be long enough. Eddie Deezen Possibly Linked to Stolen Mail in Bel Air

Cumberland’s Eddie Deezen could be in more hot water with law enforcement- the latest incident involves stolen mail in the Bel Air area.  Deezen, an actor best known for his role in “Grease” and for his character voice work in “Polar Express” and “SpongeBob SquarePants”, was charged last September with second-degree assault, disorderly conduct and trespassing following an incident at a LaVale restaurant. BREAKING: ACSO Drug Investigation Nets $120,000 in Drugs & Money

On Wednesday, March 23, 2022, deputies with the Allegany County Sheriff's Office conducted a traffic stop on Henderson Avenue, Cumberland, MD. During the stop, a quantity of suspected crack cocaine with an estimated street value $1,500 was located. As part of a follow-up investigation deputies executed a search warrant at a home on Marion Street, Cumberland, MD.    The search of the home revealed nearly two pounds of suspected crack cocaine having an estimated street value of $80,000. 3.3 pounds of Marijuana and 312grams of suspected Fentanyl were also located having a combined street value of approximately $22,000. Reports show Marilyn and Nick Mosby accepted campaign donations from Marilyn’s dead grandfather

A report on Wednesday showed that Baltimore City State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby and council president Nick Mosby accepted a campaign donation from the grave. According to the Baltimore Brew,  campaign finance reports showed that Marilyn received a $500 contribution in 2021 from her grandfather, Prescott Thompson who died in 2015. The $500 check was reported as "received on November 30, 2021, by Friends of Marilyn Mosby," according to the Baltimore Brew. The Brew said campaign reports also showed a $500 check from Thompson to the campaign of her husband, Nick in 2017. Marilyn was indicted by a federal grand jury in January on charges…
