Virginia is seeking to make cocktails-to-go a permanent menu choice in the state. Picking up drinks to go from restaurants, breweries, and wineries was made legal during the Covid pandemic and was set to expire on July 1. Both the state and senate have passed bills making the to-go drinks permanently legal, saying it will help the restaurant industry to continue its recovery from pandemic closures.
Volunteers are being sought for a pilot program through the Maryland Department of Transportation that will test the idea of Mileage-Based User Funds for funding the state’s Transportation Trust Fund. On February 5 at 2131 hours, troopers from the Cumberland Stae Police barrack responded to US 220 south of Collins Drive, in Allegany County, for a motor vehicle crash. Upon arrival, troopers found a 2024 International truck tractor across the southbound lane and a 2016 Chevrolet Equinox underneath the trailer. The driver of the Chevrolet, identified as Stephen C. Sluss (W/M Age: 65, of Keyser, WV), was heavily trapped inside the vehicle. The Shock Trauma Go Team responded to the scene due to the entrapment. On Monday, February 5th, 2024, the Cumberland City Police served a criminal summons on Martin Lewis Stanback, 33, of Cumberland MD. The summons was in reference to an incident that occurred on February 4th, 2024, at an apartment building on N. Liberty St. On that date, The Cumberland Police responded for a trespassing complaint and located Stanback on the property without permission. Gilcrest was arrested on an outstanding Bench Warrant issued by the Washington County District Court on January 31st, 2024. Allegany College of Maryland has been named a 2023-24 Voter-Friendly Campus by the Fair Elections Center Campus Vote Project. ACM received the recognition for its ongoing efforts to help students overcome barriers to taking part in the political process. Allegany College is active in voter registration events and a polling place was established at ACM in April of 2022. Colleges named as Voter-Friendly come from a wide range of two-year, four-year, public, private, rural, and urban campuses.
The Appalachian Regional Commission is accepting applications for its POWER Initiative. The Partnerships for Opportunity and Workforce and Economic Revitalization program directs federal resources to bring economic diversification and new opportunities to communities affected by job losses in coal mining, coal power plant operations, and coal-related supply chain industries.
