Brown Announces No Charges Filed in Fatal Officer Involved Shooting

Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown announced his decision to not seek charges in the November 2023, fatal officer-involved shooting in Baltimore City. On November 7, 2023, at approximately 12:35 p.m., District Action Team (DAT) officers with the Baltimore Police Department were on patrol in the 500 block of Brunswick Street when they observed a man they believed to be armed, later identified as Hunter Jessup. Officers briefly spoke with Mr. Jessup from their patrol car before he began running away from them. Allegany County Commissioner Optimistic About Riverside Park

Allegany County Commissioner Bill Atkinson says that the Riverside Park Project should move forward.  Atkinson said removal of the dam below the Blue Bridge should not pose a problem.  He added that neighboring West Virginia is supportive and will benefit from a loop trail.  The commissioner spoke to WCBC at the PACE reception.

Edwards Fund Receives Green Light for Fiscal 2025

Jake Shade, executive director of the Senator George C. Edwards Fund, told WCBC at the PACE reception that Governor Moore has given the green light for projects in the next fiscal year.  Shade said ten million dollars will be available as of July 1.

Cumberland Police Report

BENCH WARRANT SERVED   On January 19th, 2024, the Cumberland Police Department served a bench warrant on Cassandra Kay Porter. The warrant was issued as a result of Porter violating terms of her probation passed on April 28, 2023 for original charges of assault. Democratic Maryland Governor, Wes Moore, was a guest speaker at the PACE breakfast in Annapolis Friday. Honoring Senator Ben Cardin saying he will sincerely miss his leadership….     During his speech he reviewed both this year’s and last year's funding for Western Maryland. Funding over one and a half million dollars to the Canal Place River Park project, $1.2 million for renovation for the Deep Creek Volunteer Fire Department.  All in last year’s budget. Jim Justice has issued a proclamation, ordering all United States and West Virginia flags at the Capitol Complex and all state-owned facilities in McDowell County be displayed at half-staff, from dawn to dusk on Saturday, January 20, 2024, in commemoration of the distinguished life and service of former West Virginia State Senator, John Pat Fanning.    

Gov. Justice announces approval of nearly $2 million in recycling assistance grants

Gov. Jim Justice announced today the approval of grants worth $1.99 million for 22 recipients through the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection’s REAP Recycling Assistance Grants Program.  Grants were awarded to state solid waste authorities, county commissions, municipalities, private industries, and nonprofit organizations. Funding for the Recycling Assistance Grant Program is generated through the $1 assessment fee per ton of solid waste disposed at in-state landfills. The grants were awarded to the following: Cabell County Metal Center Recycling received $73,687.00 to assist with a horizontal baler and shear to support the recycling operation. Baltimore Gas & Electric rate case decision should be revisited, Office of People’s Counsel says

The Public Service Commission’s order approving Baltimore Gas & Electric Company’s rate increase for 2024-2026 fails to meet legal requirements, is internally inconsistent, and fails to address key customer protection issues, the Office of People’s Counsel said in a filing with the Commission this week.
