Part of River Park Sediment Test Will Be Paid By Cumberland

One of the most important steps in the River Park project is sediment testing of the Potomac River that passes under the Blue Bridge heading to Ridgeley. The price for that testing is over half a million dollars. Funding for half the cost is coming from the Appalachian Regional Commission. Penn State Fires James Franklin

Three consecutive losses have brought about the dismissal of Penn State head football coach James Franklin.  All three losses have come in Big 10 play, leaving the Nittany Lions with a 3-3 mark.  The team had national championship aspirations to start the season.  

Mayor Updates West Side Bridges

Cumberland Mayor Ray Morriss says the Cumberland Street Bridge should undergo construction starting next summer.  The mayor added that once the Cumberland Street Bridge is repaired, the Fayette Street Bridge will close for its reconstruction.

City Police Report for Sunday

ASSAULT ARREST   On Friday, October 10, 2025 at approximately 9:30 PM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a residence in the 400 block of Independence Street for an assault.  Officers contacted an alleged victim who reported that he was assaulted by Jeremy Thomas.  Officers observed that the victim had sustained injuries.  After further investigation, Thomas was placed under arrest. When officers attempted to place Thomas in hand restraints, he resisted arrest.  After a brief struggle, he was able to be taken into custody.  Thomas was transported to the hospital by the Cumberland Fire Department at his request. …

Request for Proposals coming to Cumberland’s Historic City Center

Cumberland's Downtown Development Commission will be releasing a request for proposals later in November to address the ongoing maintenance of the historic City center. Over a month ago the city of Cumberland transferred its only maintenance employee that was responsible for the Baltimore Street corridor to the city's Streets Department. The RFP's will address removal of trash, maintenance of plants and trees and the removal of snow. Industrial Blvd. CDS Arrest

On Friday, October 10, 2025 at approximately 4:33 PM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department conducted a traffic stop on E. Industrial Blvd. at W. Second Street.  A police k-9 scanned the vehicle and alerted to the odor of drugs.  A search was conducted and one of the occupants, identified as Ronald Giles III, was found to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine.  Giles was arrested, issued a criminal citation, and released pending trial.
