PETA Files Suit Against Attorney for Tri-State Zoo

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has filed a lawsuit against Nevin Young, attorney for Bob Candy of the Tri-State Zoo, formerly located on Christie Road.  PETA asserts that Young was involved in witness intimidation. The suit was filed in Anne Arundel County Circuit Court.

Playground, Walking Trail Making Progress

Although it has been challenging winter, progress is taking place at Cumberland’s Constitution Park. Funeral Set for Accident Victim

A Cumberland man died in a vehicle accident Saturday on Chaneysville Road.  James Ruby, 36, was pronounced dead at the scene after his vehicle struck a tree at 10:19 p.m.  Pennsylvania State Police report that Ruby was wearing his seatbelt.  Funeral services are set for Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Adams Family Funeral Home.

Eric Douglas Fleek Jr., 43 of Cumberland, was served a Circuit Court warrant for Violation of Probation. Traffic Stop Leads to Multi-State Pursuit and Felony Arrest

On February 24, 2025, Allegany County Sheriff’s Office Deputies initiated a traffic stop on Route 36, in Lonaconing, where the driver, later identified as Jahare Bishop Steglich (27 y/o male of Silver Spring MD), refused to comply with the traffic stop and provided false information to include his name. When deputies attempted to remove Steglich from the vehicle, he grabbed hold of a deputy and accelerated his vehicle, injuring the deputy in the process.
