Gov. Moore Statement on Mass Federal Layoffs during the Government Shutdown

Governor Wes Moore released the following statement on the announcement by the Trump Administration that it will pursue further federal workforce reductions in force: “This is the latest chapter in a campaign of cruelty and recklessness that is breaking essential programs that working people rely on, driving up prices, disrespecting working families, pushing up the nation’s unemployment rate, and sending America’s economy into a ditch. It’s rarely talked about. It especially impacts rural communities, and this gives a tool to law enforcement and close family members to temporarily remove someone’s access to a firearm, so they can get a break…

Delegate Bob Long of Baltimore County will introduce the proposed legislation in 2026.

Campus Discrimination Probes Threaten College Freedoms

The American Association of University Professors reports that the Department of Education has opened more than 60 investigations into colleges for Title Six Civil Rights violations. The actions are seen as threats against academic freedom at colleges in Maryland and across the country. Risa Lieberwitz of AAUP says such investigations are a tactic to strong-arm institutions to go along with Trump Administration ideologies…     “What has happened is a lot of intimidation on campuses, faculty who are feeling that they have to engage in self-censorship, change their syllabi, or to not say certain things in their classroom or make…
