On October 3rd, 2025 the Cumberland Police Department served a criminal summons on Bo Allen Becker. The summons was issued as a result of a private citizen filing for charges at the Allegany County District Court. Becker signed for his copy of the summons and was released pending trial at District Court. Great Allegany Run and 5K today

Beginning at 8 AM to 11 AM, the Great Allegany Run and 5K, sponsored by the Queen City Striders and Allegany County Habitat for Humanity, will take place in Cumberland today. The 5K race will begin on Harrison Street, turning right onto Centre Street, then right onto Frederick Street, continuing through the downtown shopping center parking lot, and proceeding onto Queen City Drive. Runners will then turn right onto Mechanic Street and continue to a turnaround point near Southern States. Local History of the Fort Hill Rifle and Pistol club

Governor Speaking At ARC Conference Monday

The fall conference of the Appalachian Regional Commission takes place Monday and Tuesday at Frostburg State University.  Governor Wes Moore, along with ARC Chair Gayle Manchin, and Rebecca Flora of the Maryland Department of Planning will be the main speakers at the conference opening on Monday. This year’s theme for the conference is Appalachian Places: Growing Local Economies. Governor Patrick Morrisey and the West Virginia Department of Human Services (DoHS), Bureau for Medical Services (BMS), announced new rate increases for home and community based services providers. This increase continues ongoing efforts to strengthen critical services for some of the state’s most vulnerable residents. Senate Fails To Reopen Federal Government

The U.S. Senate failed to pass a continuing resolution on Friday afternoon, setting up a longer period of a government shutdown. The Associated Press reports that there have been few signs of meaningful progress to ending the impasse.  Hopes for a quick end to the government shutdown are fading Friday as Republicans and Democrats dig in for a prolonged fight and President Donald Trump readies plans to unleash layoffs and cuts across the federal government.
