Criminal Summons Arrest
On Saturday, January 13th, 2024, the Cumberland City Police served a Criminal Summons on Timothy Charles Riddle, 40, of Cumberland MD. The summons was in reference to an incident that occurred on December 29th, 2023 in the area of Industrial Blvd. During the incident it is alleged that Riddle had provided officers with a false identification during a traffic stop. Trespass-Private Property
On Saturday, January 13th, 2024, the Cumberland City Police responded to the area of River Bend Court housing complex for a trespassing complaint. Upon arrival, officers located a subject on the property and identified him as Travell Teon Awkward, 29. It was learned that Awkward had been previously served with a no trespass order by the Cumberland Housing Alliance prohibiting him from being on the property. As a result, Awkward was placed under arrest. He was then issued a criminal citation for the offense and released, pending trial in District Court. Bench Warrant Served
On Saturday, January 13th, 2024, the Cumberland City Police arrested Kailey Lee Davis, 26, of Cumberland MD. Davis was arrested on two active Bench Warrants issued by the Allegany County District Court on January 9th. Both warrants allege that Davis failed to comply with orders set forth by the court that stemmed from previous charges of CDS possession and CDS distribution. Davis was taken before a District Court Commissioner for her Initial Appearance where she was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center. She is currently being held without bond. West Virginia Senate Passes bill to allow Veterans, retired Police to provide Armed Security in Schools
West Virginia could contract with military veterans and retired law enforcement officers to provide armed security at K-12 public schools under a bill passed Friday by the Republican-controlled state Senate. Republican Sen. Eric Tarr said the bill was brought to him by retired military officers concerned about school shootings happening across the country. The bill passed unanimously with support from the 34-member body’s three Democrats. The legislation will now be considered by the House of Delegates. Frostburg State men's wrestling team competed in the Virginia Duals over the past two days, picking up three team wins at the duals and scoring 119 total points. On day one the Bobcatsm opened up against Division I Liberty. The opening match went to the Flames in a close decision 6-4 before the first of three weight class wins for FSU went to junior Thierno Diallo with an 18-0 tech fall. The United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit has decided to rehear arguments in front of the full court in Bianchi v. Brown, a case involving a constitutional challenge to a Maryland law banning assault weapons. Maryland’s ban on assault weapons was enacted in 2013 after a shooter used an assault weapon in the 2012 mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut that resulted in the deaths of 20 children and six adults. The City of Cumberland announces a $100,000 Micro-Revolving Loan Fund. The Micro-Revolving Loan Fund (MRLF) is designed to assist with current and new small businesses that are or will be in the City of Cumberland with funding that may not be attainable through traditional lenders. This fund is not a grant fund and is intended to continue to provide funding through the revolving payments of principal and interest of prior borrowers. The Allegany College of Maryland Foundation added six new board members at the start of the 2023-24 academic year: Jonathan Dayton, Destinee Frankenberry, Michael “Mike” Kerns, Christopher “Chris” Mathews, Juli McCoy and Matthew “Matt” Miller. Dayton is the executive director of the Maryland Rural Health Association and a volunteer Firefighter/EMT.
