A Check of Area Road Conditions this Sunday morning
State and Federal highways have been treated and the road surface are in good condition. MDOT has 59 snow plows operating in the state of Maryland. In Allegany County there are presently 8 MDOT snow plows in operation, Garrett County 10. Primary surface streets around the county have also been treated and remain in good condition this morning. Secondary streets as well as neighborhood streets remain unplowed are traded. In downtown, City of Cumberland parking lots as well as sidewalks remain untreated are plowed.

Total snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches and some light freezing rain is possible through sunrise this morning. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph this afternoon for Garrett County, Maryland and Western, West Virginia.
Law Enforcement Continues to respond during Storm
Area Law Enforcement responding to a number of stranded motor vehicle calls during yesterday's storm. Drivers simply unprepared for the road conditions and sudden snowfall with several running out of fuel while waiting roadside for the weather to pass. Road conditions and limited visibility played a factor in a number of Motor Vehicle crashes however, no fatalities. The steep grade along area highways made it difficult for tractor trailers drivers to maneuver their vehicles uphill. Willowbrook Road Assault Arrest
On January 6th, Officers form the Cumberland Police Department (CPD) were dispatched to an assault victim on Willowbrook Road. Upon arrival Officers conducted an investigation which led Officers to a residence on the 500 block of Bedford Street. At the residence Matthew Scott Miller was placed under arrest for several assault charges. Matthew Scott Miller was taken to Allegany County Detention Center to await his hearing. The summons stems from an incident on December 3rd, 2023 to where Shyanna shoplifted and fled from a business on Park Street. The employees and Officers were able to identify Shyanna through video. The summons was applied for at District Court and granted.
