BENCH WARRANT SERVED
On Tuesday, October 24, 2023, the Cumberland Police Department served a Circuit Court bench warrant on Aaron Long. The warrant was issued as the result of Long violating the terms and conditions of probation. He was originally charged with Burglary-First Degree. Long was arrested and transported to the Allegany County Detention Center where he is currently being held without bond pending his initial appearance before the court. Hogan Withdrawals From Harvard Fellowship Over Anti-Semitism
Former Maryland Governor Larry Hogan has withdrawn from Harvard University’s fellowship program for their failure to condemn those on the Harvard Campus for cheering the violent acts of Hamas beheading babies and other terrorist acts in their attack against Israel. Hogan was on CNBC’s Squawk Box and said his issue is with the university’s lack of response to dangerous anti-Semitism that has taken place on the campus.
Pennsylvania Recognized Domestic Violence Awareness
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Pennsylvania. One in three women and one in four men will experience domestic violence in their lifetime. Last year alone, 104 victims died from domestic violence in Pennsylvania. The state has provided $248 million in funding from the Commission on Crime and Delinquency since 2021 to help local programs provide resources to victims of crime. Moore’s Endorsement Skips Over Trone
David Trone’s campaign may have taken a hit on Tuesday as Governor Wes Moore officially announced his endorsement for a US Senate candidate – and it wasn’t Trone. Alsobrooks is currently the Prince George’s County Executive and has picked up endorsements from many federal and state officials since announcing her candidacy. Meanwhile, Congressman Trone sent out an email to press and supporters emphasizing his endorsements from over 100 officials and lawmakers.
Maryland Joins Suit Against Meta Social Media Platforms
Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown, along with 41 other state Attorneys General, has filed a series of federal and state lawsuits against Meta. The suits allege the company knowingly designed and deployed harmful features on its social media platforms with the intent of addicting children and teens, while falsely assuring the public that these features are safe and suitable for young users. Brown spoke at a press conference Tuesday and said the federal complaint includes 32 other states and asserts that Meta’s practices violate the federal Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act…
Drug Take Back Day This Saturday
National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is this Saturday and over 60 collection sites in West Virginia as well as all State Police Barracks in Maryland will be participating. Spearheaded by the national Drug Enforcement Agency, Take Back Day was launched in 2010. Unused and expired medications are collected and disposed of safely in incinerators, getting potentially harmful substances off the streets. Two Indicted By Grand Jury
Two men are jailed in Allegany County after indictments from the Grand Jury . David Lee Kesler of Cumberland was charged with second-degree rape and sex offense in the third degree along with a misdemeanor charge of second-degree assault. The charges stem from an incident in September. William Boyd Miller of Westernport has been indicted on charges of drug distribution, also from a September incident.
PACE Event Making Plans for January
PACE, or Positive Attitudes Change Everything, is working on its 47th event in Annapolis. The evening reception and morning breakfast brings together legislators, businesses, and individuals working for common outcomes in Allegany and Garrett counties. Salisbury Employees Receive Union Recognition
General government workers employed by the City of Salisbury, Maryland have won formal recognition of their union after City County members voted to amend the city charter and pass a labor code to grant collective bargaining rights to all city employees within three distinct units: police, fire, and general government.
