CHARLESTON, WV — Gov. Jim Justice welcomed home soldiers and airmen of the West Virginia National Guard who volunteered to deploy to Texas in support of Operation Lone Star at Joint Forces Headquarters in Charleston. More than 50 members of the WVNG deployed to assist the Texas Military Department, Texas Department of Public Safety, and additional law enforcement partners to detect, deter, and interdict transnational criminal activity including human smuggling/trafficking and the flow of illegal narcotics and drugs into the U.S. between official points of entry. Keep Maryland Beautiful Grants Available
Applications are now being accepted for this year’s "Keep Maryland Beautiful” grants program. Administered by the Departments of Natural Resources, Transportation, Agriculture and the Chesapeake Bay Trust, grants are offered to non-profits, volunteer groups, and communities to support education projects, stewardship and protection of natural resources. Last year, 31 grants totaling $92,000 were awarded for projects in 12 counties and Baltimore City. More information is available at dnr.maryland.gov.
Volleyball Ends Hall of Fame City Tournament With 500 Record
The Frostburg State Volleyball team completed their weekend at the Hall of Fame City Tournament, falling to Slippery Rock 3-1, but going on to defeat Roberts Wesleyan 3-1 on Saturday. Governor Wes Moore and Lieutenant Governor Aruna Miller visited Baltimore Safe Haven, a transitional housing facility in Baltimore that provides services for Maryland’s transgender community. Ghost Tour of Historic Cumberland
Ghost Tour today from 7-8:30PM. A 90-minute walking ghost tour will begin near the fountain at The Western Maryland Scenic Railroad Station. On Friday, September 8th, 2023, The Cumberland City Police arrested Dolphin Ricardo Smith, 31, of Cumberland MD. Smith was arrested on an outstanding Bench Warrant issued by the Allegany County District Court on August 17th, 2023. The warrant alleges Smith failed to comply with an order of the court that stemmed from previous assault charges. Smith was taken before the District Court Commissioner for his Initial Appearance where he was released on a $20,000 unsecured bond. Mark Allan Giddings, 50 of Frostburg, was arrested on two Warrants. The first District Court Arrest Warrant was for Violating Protective Order and Obstruction of Justice and the second was a District Court Bench Warrant for Violating Pre-Trial Release.
