Cumberland Man Charged In Knife Incident Near Canal Place

On February 11, 2017 at approximately 3:30 PM Cumberland Police officers were called to the Canal Place area near the Western Maryland scenic railroad for a littering complaint.

While in the area an Officer was approached by four subjects who stated a man had just threatened to assault them with a knife. The four victims stated a man, later identified as Eastern Star Day, had approached them, pulled out a knife, pointed it at them and threatened to “cut them.” The subjects then pointed out and identified Eastern Star Day as the suspect who threatened them with the knife. Officers contacted Day who admitted he had a knife on his person. The knife was seized.

Day stated he was approached by the four subjects and they stated they were going to “jump him.” Day stated he pulled his knife and pointed it at the subjects to keep them away from him. Officers again spoke to the 4 victims who stated they did not approach Day and he was the aggressor. Day was then placed under arrest and was transported to the Cumberland Police Department.

He was processed and is awaiting a bond hearing in Allegany County District Court.

Charges: Assault: First Degree (4 counts), Assault: Second Degree (4 counts), Reckless Endangerment (4 counts), Dangerous Weapon with intent to injure and Disorderly Conduct
