The 2^nd Annual Pig Out in the Park: Backyard BBQ Bash took place  last Saturday  from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Hoffman Park in Frostburg, MD. A nationally recognized Kansas City Barbecue Society sanctioned backyard barbecue competition, Pig Out in the Park gave amateur BBQ enthusiasts the chance to put together a team and show their skills to the public while competing for cash prizes and bragging rights.

 

This year, our local teams swept the competition! The Reserve Champion was Golden Idol Barbecue, led by Eric Wilkinson of Lonaconing, MD, with a first place in the chicken category and fourth place in ribs. Bar-B-Qued Beast led by Craig Frazee of Friendsville, MD took first place in the People’s Choice category, which allowed attendees to vote for their favorite barbecue of the day. Other local teams that left their mark included The Seventh Layer led by Frostburg local Tim Fronzoli, Ba-Ba-Que Black Sheep led by Reeves Thompson of Frostburg, and Fire-Crackin’ BBQ led by Mickey Chapman of Oakland, MD.

 

This year’s event also featured live music by Day Old News, Savage Road, and headliner Yarn. Attendees had a blast with mechanical bull riding, a chainsaw carving demonstration with Jessie Lee Chainsaw Art, bubble soccer with Joint Training Facility, a National Dance Day dance demonstration with Frostburg Dance Academy, a pie-eating competition with pies from the Princess Restaurant, a karate demonstration by Kick Masters Karate, and food and artisan vendors from the Frostburg area.

 

All proceeds from Pig Out in the Park benefit the non-profit organization FrostburgFirst: a Maryland Main Street Community, Inc., and efforts towards downtown revitalization, promoting small business, engaging the community, and making Frostburg a beautiful and thriving city to live, work, and visit.
