Traffic stop leads to Drug Arrest
On Sunday night at approximately 8:45 pm officers of the Cumberland Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Industrial Boulevard. The officer contacted the operator, and a passenger, Laurie Cavanaugh, and observed criminal indicators. The officer requested a K-9 to conduct a scan of the vehicle, which indicated a positive alert. After a subsequent search officer located a quantity of a controlled dangerous substance belonging to Cavanaugh. Cavanaugh was issued a Criminal Citation and released pending her trial at District Court. Arrest: Laurie Michelle Cavanaugh, age 43, Clear Brook Virginia. Charges: Possession not Cannabis.
Insurance rates for those enrolled in Obama Care in Maryland will increase
Starting January 1 health insurance premiums in Maryland will rise for those enrolled in the Affordable Care Act, also known as ObamaCare. Rates for individual plans will increase by an average of 6.6 percent in 2023. The price hike is primarily due to the current inflation rate which is currently 8.26%. Poll shows Democrat Wes Moore with commanding lead in governor’s race
A new poll by the Washington Post and the University of Maryland found that Democrat Wes Moore is leading the Maryland governor's race by 32 points. Moore, a best-selling author and nonprofit executive, is facing Republican Del. Dan Cox, who has been endorsed by former President Donald Trump, in the General Election. The poll found that Moore had 86% percent support among fellow Democrats while he also garnered 22% of the Republican vote and 38% of the independent vote. Citizens feel crime will spike if Mission relocates to N. Centre St
Among the major concerns expressed by residents in the North Centre Street area about the prospect of the Union Rescue Mission relocating to the site of the High Point Furniture Outlet are of increased vagrancy and loitering and decreasing property values. Criminal Summons Served
On October 8th, 2022 officers of the Cumberland Police Department served a Criminal Summons on Raymond Allen. The Criminal Summons was issued by the District Court stemming from an October 3rd, 2022 incident. During the incident officers responded to the 100 block of Arch Street for a reported disturbance. During the officer’s investigation they learned that a wanted subject was a suspect in the incident. They questioned Allen about the suspects whereabouts and Allen provided information that obstructed the officer’s investigation.
