Great Allegheny Passage surface upgrades getting underway

Some good news for those who travel the Cumberland portion of the Great Allegheny Passage- with surface upgrades getting underway and continuing into next year. The hiking/biking trail is popular with bicyclists, with a 150-mile trail linking downtown Pittsburgh to Cumberland and a connecting trail making it possible to journey all the way to Washington, D.C. While a great deal of the trail is in excellent condition, the local trail area is less than ideal. The McMullen Building open house drew over 250 visitors Saturday showcasing two floors of luxury apartments with historic wood floors, modern features as well as a fourth floor balcony. 19th annual Hooley Plunge raising over $114,000

A chili and very windy day as the community gathered together Saturday to plunge into lake Habeeb at Rocky Gap State Park for the 19th annual Hooley Plunge this year's event raising over $114,000 for local programs supporting the developmentally disabled, including Special Olympics of Allegany County Friends Aware, public and private school programs as well as Boy Scout Troop 89. Two arrested for assault on Henderson Avenue

On Friday, March 3, 2023 at approximately 1:46 PM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a residence in the 400 block of Henderson Avenue for an assault that just occurred.  Officers arrived and contacted the involved parties, Johnna Buckley and Jason Crandall. It was determined that a mutual assault had occurred which placed risk of injury to a child that was present.  Buckley and Crandall were placed under arrest and transported to Central Booking.  They were both remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center without bond. BENCH WARRANT, CRIMINAL SUMMONS SERVED

On Friday, March 3, 2023, the Cumberland Police Department served a bench warrant on Timothy Flynn.  The warrant was issued as the result of Flynn violating his probation.  Flynn was originally charged with Assault-2nd Degree.   He was arrested and transported to Central Booking. He was later seen by a District Court Commissioner and remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center on a $500 bond. Friday’s snow day forced the cancellation of Allegany County Public Schools but Why?

Last Friday’s snow day that forced the cancellation of Allegany County Public Schools turned out to be a relatively mild morning in Cumberland and points east- with Frostburg getting the bulk of the ice. Despite that situation the Board of Education made the decision to close the entire system- opting not to do a regional approach. MARYLAND STATE POLICE INVESTIGATING FATAL TANKER TRUCK CRASH

(FREDERICK, MD) – Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal tanker truck crash that occurred early this afternoon in Frederick County. Shortly before noon, troopers from the Maryland State Police Frederick Barrack responded to US-15 North, approximately a half mile north of Rosemont Avenue, for a report of a tanker truck that crashed into a tree and caught fire. The driver of the tanker truck, whose identity has not been confirmed at this time, was declared deceased at the scene. Windy conditions causing havoc Saturday morning

A busy Saturday morning for Allegany County Emergency Services and utility workers as windy conditions causing havoc throughout the listening area. A number of car accidents early today on Route 220 and a Building collapse in Frostburg just before 9AM has emergency crews out and the area Joint Communication Center declaring Emergency Call mode. A large portion of LaVale is currently without electrical power as utility crews scramble to restore electrical service to both businesses and residents. At the time of this report Wal-Mart is currently closed did you know electrical power.

City of Cumberland trash collection has been suspended today

Due to the closing of the landfill because of extreme weather conditions, City of Cumberland trash collection has been suspended for the Saturday, North End Area of the City of Cumberland.
