America’s 9/11 Ride Coming Through Friday Morning
America's 9/11 Ride will be coming through Cumberland Friday morning between 8:15 and 9:30am. Almost 300 motorcyclists are taking part in the 24th annual ride that honors the memory of those lost in the September 2001 terror attacks on New York City and the Pentagon in Washington D.C. The ride begins at the Flight 93 Memorial Site in Shanksville, Pennsylvania and will arrive in Cumberland via the Narrows and Mechanic Streets. Crash Closes Wellersburg Road
An early morning crash closed Route 160 north of Wellersburg on Wednesday. A tractor trailer carrying produce crashed, trapping the driver. Emergency crews from Wellersburg and Meyersdale responded, along with Pennsylvania State Police and PennDot. The road was closed well into Wednesday evening. An investigation into the cause is continuing.
Record Breaking Numbers for BWI
The Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport logged record-breaking passenger traffic in June 2024. Maryland Department of Transportation records show that 2.6 million commercial passengers flew through the airport, a new all-time monthly passenger record. It is an increase of 11% over June 2023. BWI Airport generates a total economic impact of $11.3 billion dollars. Governor Wes Moore said the airport’s continued success supports efforts to make Maryland more competitive through tourism, business, and economic growth.
Breakfast, Lunch Free This Year in Allegany County
Families will have a little money back in their pockets this year as they will no longer have to pay for breakfast and lunch for their students that attend Allegany County Public schools. Fundraiser Ride for Squires
Squires Electric of Cumberland is supporting a benefit motorcycle ride for owner Ken Squires on Sunday, August 18th. The ride event will begin and end at Crossroads Sportsman Club at Naves Crossroads. Tanya Ryan of Squires Electric says there is a large variety of raffles and a 50/50 drawing taking place to raise funds for Squires’ medical and personal expenses… "The bike ride will start at noon. West Virginia Sets Protocols for Ambulance Blood Transfusions
West Virginia is leading the nation as the first state to implement statewide protocols for administering whole blood transfusions on ambulances. Since the program launched in November of 2023, Cabell County EMS has provided the most transfusions in the field and Harrison County began the practice in March. Downtown Economic Restructuring
The streets of Downtown Cumberland are not the only things being reimagined. Once the downtown is open to traffic again, attention will turn to the organization of the businesses in the area. On August 14th, 2024 the Cumberland Police Department served a bench warrant on Shaina Viola Metzner. The warrant was issued as result of Metzner failing to appear for court. She was originally charged with driving on a suspended out of state license. Metzner was placed under arrest and transported to central booking.
