One Fatality in Winchester Road Crash
On March 30th, 2024 at approximately 10:18a.m. Allegany County deputies were dispatched to the 13000 block of Winchester Road, Lavale, MD for a reported overturned vehicle. Upon arrival rescuers from numerous area fire departments were attempting to extricate two victims from the inside the vehicle. Karen Walker (66 of Bowling Green, MD) was successfully extricated, and then flown by Maryland State Police Trooper 5 to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV. Medical staff on the scene attempted to revive the operator Phillip Allen Walker (62 of Bowling Green, MD) unsuccessfully. Mr. Walker was pronounced deceased on the scene. Justice Vetoes Vaccination Exemption Bill
West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice on Wednesday vetoed a bill that would have loosened West Virginia's school vaccination policies. The bill would have allowed some students who don’t attend traditional public institutions or participate in group extracurriculars like sports to be exempt from vaccinations typically required for children starting day care or school. The bill, which received majority support in both legislative chambers, would have allowed private schools to develop and enforce their own policies on vaccinations. Seymour Street Arrest Made
On Saturday, March 30, 2024, officers of the Cumberland Police Department located Rachael Dolly in the 300 block of Seymour Street. Dolly was confirmed to have an active arrest warrant through West Virginia. When officers went to place Dolly under arrest, she began to fight the officers and pull away from them. Dolly caused injuries to two of the officers during the struggle. She was eventually taken into police custody and found to be in possession of suspected drug paraphernalia. Cumberland Police Make Theft Arrest
On Saturday, March 30, 2024 at approximately 7:22 PM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a business on Queen City Drive for a shoplifting complaint. Police located the suspect, Jason Twigg, in the area of Decatur Street. After further investigation, Twigg was arrested and transported to police headquarters where he was later released on a criminal citation. At approximately 8:19 PM, officers were dispatched to a different business on Queen City Drive for another shoplifting complaint. WVDOH surpasses 70,000 potholes patched in Operation R.I.P. Potholes
Since Gov. Jim Justice and the West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH) announced Operation R.I.P. Potholes on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, WVDOH road crews have patched 73,360 potholes along 5,744 miles of road. WVDOH road crews continue to take advantage of the unseasonably warm weather during an early patching blitz. Pothole patching typically doesn’t begin until the first week of April, but WVDOH officials worked with asphalt plant owners in St. Albans, Morgantown, and Princeton to open early this season, allowing road crews to make permanent pothole repairs with hot asphalt. On this date at approximately 5:49 PM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to the 600 block of E. Second Street for an assault between juveniles.
