Warrants Served

Jessica Hope Weisenmiller, 19 of Frostburg, was served a Circuit Court Body-Attachment for Failure To Appear for a Child Support hearing. She was released after posting $100 bond. Demond Arthur Scott, 36 of Cumberland, was served two (2) Circuit Court Bench Warrants for Violation of Probation. His original convictions include: Theft Scheme: $100 to under $1,500 where she was sentenced to 5-years incarceration with all but 2-years suspended with 3-years supervised probation along with $990.80 in restitution; and Theft: $100 to under $1,500 where he received a 2-year suspended sentence with 3-yhears supervised probation along with $1,006.80 in restitution. Committee Hears Testimony From Victim’s Father

Testimony was heard by the House Judiciary Committee Tuesday in Annapolis on a crime bill submitted by Democratic Delegate Elizabeth Embry.  House Bill 0301 would remove the opportunity for individuals convicted of rape to earn “good time” credits that would reduce their prison sentence.  Frank LaPere spoke before the committee – his daughter was murdered by a convicted sex offender who had enough credits to leave prison five years early…  

Talk On Artificial Intelligence Scheduled

A former senior U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) official will speak on the fast-evolving field of artificial intelligence on Thursday, February 15 at 7 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center at Garrett College.  Kurt Heckman, who served as DOE’s director of Secretarial Boards and Councils during the Trump Administration, co-authored the Secretary’s Advisory Board report on artificial intelligence. His presentation, entitled AI in Society, will take place in the PAC recital hall.  Heckman said one of the keys to AI’s potential is the depth and breadth of machine learning. Arrest Warrants Served

On Tuesday February 6th, 2024 officers of the Cumberland Police Department served three Arrest Warrants on Robert Winner. The Arrest Warrants were issued by the Circuit and District Court due to Winner violating his probation through both courts. Winner was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center where he is held without bond.   Arrest: Robert Brian Winner, age 38, Cumberland Maryland. Charges: Three Counts of Violation of Probation.

Controlled Dangerous Substance Arrests

On Tuesday February 6th, 2024 an officer of the Cumberland Police Department observed Timothy Riddle to be walking in the area of Bedford Street. The officer knew Timothy to have an active Arrest Warrant. The officer contacted Riddle and advised him of his Arrest Warrant, and Riddle attempted to leave his belongings with another individual. The officer then observed Riddle to pull a vile of a controlled dangerous substance from his pocket, and the officer seized the controlled dangerous substance. Yale Street Assault, Destruction of Property Arrest

On Tuesday February 6th, 2024 at approximately 10:39pm officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to the 800 block of Yale Street for a reported domestic assault in progress. Upon officer’s arrival they contacted Sarah Kyle, and the victim. Officers observed obvious evidence of assault to the victim, and learned that Kyle and the victim were engaged in an argument that turned physical. After interviewing the victim, Sarah, and a witness, it was learned that Sarah had scratched the victim, threw several objects at them, and began destroying property inside the residence. Dilley Street Assault Arrest

On Tuesday February 6th, 2024 at approximately 10:23am Officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to the 500 block of Dilley Street for a reported assault in progress. Upon officer’s arrival they spoke with Tenaya Crabtree and Katelyn Metty, and learned that they were engaged in an argument that turned physical. Both Tenaya and Katelyn were placed under arrest and were later taken before a District Court Commissioner. Tenaya and Katelyn were both released on their own recognizance.
