On Wednesday, September 24th, 2025, the Cumberland Police Department served a Criminal Summons on Mariah Star Howell, 19, of Cumberland MD. The summons was issued in reference to an incident that occurred on September 5th, 2025, at a Queen City Drive business. During that incident, it is alleged Howell assaulted a subject outside the business. BENCH WARRANTS SERVED

On Tuesday, September 23, 2025 at approximately 1:21 PM, an officer of the Cumberland Police Department stopped a vehicle on N. Centre Street.  A police K-9 was utilized and alerted to the odor of drugs in the vehicle.  One of the occupants, later identified as Michael Campbell, initially provided officers with a false name.  Campbell was found to have two active Circuit Court bench warrants for his arrest. Mall-Goers Should See Improvements

Ongoing complaints about system failures at Country Club Mall in LaVale have reached the ears of the Allegany County government officials.  Economic Development Director Jeff Barclay spoke with WCBC about calls his office received concerning the lack of air conditioning and businesses closed, leaving or having limited hours at the mall. Annual Adopt-A-Highway Fall Cleanup Set For September 27

The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection is making preparations for the statewide Adopt-A-Highway Fall Cleanup on Saturday, September 27th.  Individuals, families, churches and community groups gather annually to pick up trash on state-maintained roads, back roads, or main routes. Local DOH garages provide supplies for the event. Last year, volunteers removed over 215,000 pounds of litter from roadways in the Mountain State.

Naming Opportunities Open For Downtown Benches, Waterfall

Cumberland residents and businesses can now apply to the city to name one of the 17 benches on Baltimore Street or the waterfall at Liberty Street. The naming process is on a first-come, first-served basis. Proceeds will be used to maintain Baltimore Street. Those interested in naming or dedicating can apply through cumberlandmd.gov. Naming rights for the waterfall can be 5 or 10 years according to Mayor Ray Morriss…     “For the waterfall, it’s $5,000 for five years, $10,000 for 10; and also the benches are $1,000 dollars for the life of the bench which is probably 10 years.”

Obituary For Adrienne Ottaviani

Adrienne L. Ottaviani, 78, was called to be with her Lord and Savior at on Tuesday, September 23. She passed after a long battle with cancer at home with her family at her side. She was born in Denbo, Pennsylvania, on July 7, 1947, to Francisco Saverio Voso and Ruth Ann (Trocano) Voso. The Voso family later moved to Baltimore, Maryland, where she met her husband, Philip. They were married in 1968 and shared their lives for the next 57 years. Adrienne and her family moved to Cumberland in 1980 when her husband transferred to the area. Adrienne quickly became…

The combination of light winds and lingering low level moisture will create areas of fog through daybreak this morning. South End House Fire

Cumberland Fire Department dispatch to a house fire just before 1 a.m. near Virginia Avenue and Elder Street. Fire fighters remained on scene till just after 3:45 a.m. No report of any serious injuries. The Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
